The light at the end of the hallway

The alarm buzzes, I get out of bed.

And even though I would rather stay instead,

I get up.

I get up, get dressed, get cleaned up,

then I head to school.

The countless faces surround me,

everywhere, everywhere, they surround me.

I want to hide, I want to run,

Some way to get out of this place.

The figures overwhelm me,

completely hiding my view,

but then, at the end of the hallway,

My light.

He stands there,

not doing anything,

not saying a thing,

just staring back at me,

and he smiles.

His smile warms my heart,

makes it swell as if it’s going to burst,

taking in this gentle display of love.

My day already feels brighter,

knowing that someone is looking out for me,

knowing that someone cares,

knowing that when I start again tomorrow,

He’ll be right there again, waiting for me.
