In Light of a Friendship

The sun rises before I do.

It sends rays to coax me from my covers,

but only captures morning dew.

The night still has me in its hold,

the land where fitful dreams unfold.

It transforms my limbs to lead

and keeps me under sleep’s threshold.

One thing can rouse me from my bed

and clear away the groggy murk

that’s made its home inside my head.

I want to see your laughing eyes,

a part of you that keeps me sane.

You shine like the moon and your mouth is the crescent,

a smile I never want to see wane.
