Lights Off
A click, a twist, a pop
Bubbles rise to the top
Like balloons
With severed strings
Being released into the sky.
Lips
To the edge
As if stepping
To the edge of a cliff
But not jumping
Yet.
Cool, sweet, thick
Sitting on the palette
Like water in a lake
Then running down your throat
Like a creek.
Bright eyes.
So many words and teeth
Sentences arriving with smiles.
So many hands
Warmth arriving with touch.
As the level of the bottle
Gets lower
The smiles grow.
Tingling.
Bright eyes
Become cloudy
As the sun disappears
But the warmth
That should go away
Only gets hotter.
The level
Of the sweet liquid
Should be low now,
Right?
It keeps getting higher.
Suppose
I should keep going.
Excuse me, sir
The cliff isn’t high enough.
Can I get a staircase?
There is another one
In the fridge
I think.
Tripping
Up the stairs
Stepping
To the edge
Swaying
In the wind
Where
Did all the water go?
The ocean was full
Just a bit ago
Where
Is the sun?
The warmth was there
Just a moment ago
Maybe
I’ll just sit down
For a moment.
Lie down
For a moment.
Did somebody turn the lights off?
