Lights

Why is it that

the brightest lights

are the ones to

 burn out so fast?

We notice their presence more

and their abscence too

But we fail to see them as dim,

because they're still brighter than the rest

They're a brightness in our lives,

and a warmth within our hearts,

but because of the difference in infinities,

they're a fault in our stars.

When these lights butn out,

our halls, streets, and hearts feel empty

anf just like what's seen

on a dark night without a candle;

     filled with nothingness.

When the the light goes out,

we stumble about like blind men.

When the heat goes away,

we shiver and shake like chattering teeth.

Even after the light and warmth leaves,

out memories remain

and we must use them

to live on day to day.

We we cannot allow our own lights

to burn out.

Instead we must take the example

that theirs have left behind.

So remember their smiles and laughter,

and mirror them.

Forget any pain or suffering

and shut them out.

Build your light.

Protect it from pain.

Do not ignore or forget it.

But let the memorial flame burn on.
