Limits
Why does the sun disappear at night?
See, I’ve always had these
Questions for you, red hot and burning,
But whispered.
And my eyes always searching;
Looking up at you was always easy.
Even on tip toes, you were miles overhead,
Out of reach,
Galaxies.
Our hearts beat together once-
A brief and ready staccato-
A symphony for two.
Mommy, I remember lying with you, once,
The gentle curves of your body- perfect circles-
They didn’t flow with the straight lines and angles of mine.
And I remember how you used to be the
Roots that slept beneath my feet,
Holding the earth in place.
Always holding me in place.
Now, you stand five foot some inches on the best of days,
And I lean down to kiss you.
Now, I wish you could see how I have grown.
Heard the clamor of my white heart.
Now, I wish you could see that
Lines are made for progress.
Not circles.
Now, the roots awaken.
Sleeping giants.
Mommy,
Now, you have to see…
The Earth under my toes are falling away now.
Cause it’s not where I belong;
It’s not mine to walk upon anymore.
Let me hang
Here,
Like a star.
Like the ones we used to wish on.
I hope you’ll trust whatever I’ll become.
See, I’ve always loved
Everything you’ve done.
Mommy, do you see?
The sun never disappears.
It’s just an illusion,
Caused by the world spinning around.
