Lined Paper
A piece of lined paper
A pen to the side
What could it do?
A paper can’t fly
It can’t grow legs
And go away
It can’t just not exist one day.
But today
I find no other way
But to say
It went away.
I did not lose it
I did not use it
I did not send it away.
Why? It screamed
Why do I bring such misery?
Maybe it floated away
Floated on a tear
For this poor piece of paper
Held more pain than it could bear.
There was no rip
And there was no tear
There was nothing wrong
From what I was aware.
This little letter
With no soul
Could not bear
To see me hold,
Hold back the tears
Hold back the pain
For with this letter
Came the rain.
My love was gone
Everything had gone wrong.
A bullet to the head
And he was laid to rest.
This letter told all
But it was so far.
One piece of paper
With lines on its face
One little letter
That claimed my last day.
