[Linger]

[lingering]

Caty-Scarlett Coleman

his stubble brushes past my face

the clock ticks fast we run its race

oh please be slow, keep calm the pace

the time: it’s 8

a train: the place.

my heart it pounds and skips some beats

but all the same it breaks, it weeps

the last of him that I shall see

those pools of blue, they pierce through me

through them he pleads, “please don’t forget…”

i cut him off with one last kiss

“goodbye my love, come back to me.

my heart is here, for yours it be.”

i’ll cry again, i know i will

with tears once more, my eyes shall fill

for when I see his soul, a chill,

a shiver rushes through me still.

loud horns they cry

the smoke it starts

their shrieks of pain

They voice my heart.

he walks away with heavy steps

and right onto that train he gets.

behind the window on the left

his palm is pressed, mine matches it.

and in that gesture goes his heart

he leaves it here, he now departs

still in my bones there’s something there

it lingers on.

it’s hope we share.
