Linger
I wear nothing on my mind
Save for years of regret and strife
Tell me then if it isn't any trouble
Would you care to linger?
I whisper hopes and dreams to the air
And do not receive a response
But maybe if you'd touch your hand to mine
That would make up for it all
I don't care who it is
I just need someone to hold me
My heart these days is feeling dry
And I turn my back on the sun
Fire kindles to life
And warms the palms of my hands
But I draw back afraid
That if I let it
It will burn me
I don't need you forever
I just need you until I die
And if you'd promise me that
I could find it in me to look up
I'll hold fast to you
And I won't let them take your light
As much as I can I'll protect you
And give you what I have
I would never ask you
And you would never agree
But if somehow you could just hold me close
Maybe I could silence the ringing in my ears
I know you cannot save me
And I am not asking you to do so
But I am asking you to stay
If only so I can show you
All of what you mean to me
