Listen

Pitter, patter

A heavy mouse grows fatter

His nails scraping, scritching, scratching

Running from a bird just hatching

With one fierce, tiny squack

A first glimpse of a rapacious hawk

Supported by a heavy twig nest

A strong wind blows from the east to the west

Whistling through the leaves of the trees

Causing a hive to release its bees

Angry and hostile they fly

While a deer watches the sky

Soon it will become dark and cool

Leaving only the brave and a fool

A cricket sounds its song

Listen, nature sings along.
