Listen
I no longer have aspiration to make it on Broadway.
After all, I'm just another girl who thinks she has what it takes.
But, that's the thing that set's me apart, you see I have what it takes if only someone would listen.
Listen beyond my race and into my drive.
Listen beyond my appearance and into my passionate soul.
Now that I'm back in reality, those are expectations or better yet, formulated as my wishes.
That's not to much to ask for, right?
The great Kahlil Gibran once shared,
"The reality of the other person lies not in what he reveals to you, but what her cannot reveal to you.
Therefore, if you would understand him, listen to not what he says, but rather to what he does not say."
We are here for a reason, whether we know that reason yet or not.
No matter which winding trail we take it's key we spend less time talking; making judgments on each other and more time listening; lifting each other to their peak.
The ladder to success in only being achievable based on who you know rather than the will power you have for that love you hold in your heart is nonsense.
But yet again, I'm back to reality.
People don't often nearly give you the chance.
One opportunity of being heard without your appearance being put on center stage can be all it takes.
Many don't get that one true opportunity.
I've had my share of devastation, being told no, these words just became another language.
Listen beyond my skin color and hear what the fire behind my eyes means.
