Listen With Closed Ears

We are all one in their eyes yet we all are broken up

We are all free yet locked away in the state of mind society wants us to be

We are all responsible for our actions yet forget why we did that action in the first place

All equal yet you look at me as a third of the man you are

Still held back by the shackles and chains our ancestors wore

Put weapons in our hands now and not expect us to use them

Still put the lethal white powder in front of us and expect us not to use or sell it

And now we are being suffocated

Not by the brawny  hands of uncle sam around our necks

Not by the law holding us down with a steel boot

But by the red gushing blood that stains the sidewalk

And the thick stifling gun smoke that lingers around for months

So are you telling me i can't make something out of myself

So are you telling me i have to write rhymes or shoot a basketball to make it out of the box that i am put in

So are you telling me i can't be the president

You telling me i can't chase my dreams while I'm awake

Well now you can't tell me anything because my ears are closed and I'm done listening
