A Listening Ear

As I gaze out my bedroom window To the endless field beyond At the horses peacefully grazing over yonder I ponder how a horse Lends a listening ear As we ramble on about all of life’s Trials and tribulations I think about how A horse is always there To lend its quiet, listening ear As we entrust the horse With all of our deepest, darkest secrets That we cannot whisper to anyone else Knowing that the gentle, quiet beast Will keep them locked up tight With its quiet, listening ear I think about how a horse Can just be there to listen As we chatter on about our day While we groom it As the horse stands and lends Its quiet, listening ear As a gaze and ponder About the horse And its quiet, listening ear I stand and wonder What life would be like? If we did not have the horse And its quiet, listening ear Who could we trust? To keep our deepest, darkest secrets Who could we talk to? When we just need someone to listen Life would be sad Very sad indeed If we did not have the horse And its quiet, listening ear To listen to all of our chatter Without ever saying a word Aside from an occasional nicker
