Little Acts of Kindness

He walks through the halls with his face covered by his hood Inside his head he’s screaming, but outside he never could Glancing down the hall, it looks like everyone has a friend It seems as if he’s the only guy who dares to break the trend That familiar feeling of loneliness again comes creeping back The frustration from within builds up, and he’s about to crack But wait, here comes a girl with short and bouncy blonde hair With the sweetest blue eyes, her skin is freckled and fair She smiles and explains to him how she’s new to town She ask him if he wouldn’t mind showing her around For the very first time in a week, a smile emerges on his face In his head new thoughts arise, he might be able to handle this place She’s forty-three years old playing the role of housewife Has a hardworking husband, it’s the picture perfect life It’s becoming a regular pattern for her husband to stay out late She assumes it’s for work and patiently says that supper can wait But one day while doing laundry, she untangles his lie In the form of red lipstick staining her husband’s new tie She cries and cries until the cries turn into screams This isn’t the life she wanted; this isn’t the life from her dreams One room over, in the kitchen, the phone begins to ring She hesitates but answers it, not sure what it will bring A voice of a friend on the other end asks her how she’s been The comforting voice tells her someone’s there through thick and thin So next time you’re walking down the street or through the store Make note of every person and don’t let them go ignored Say hi to complete strangers because it might just make their day Or give them that burst of hope they need to go along their way Little acts of kindness could turn the world around Opening doors for people, picking books up off the ground Not letting someone sit alone, or lending a listening ear These are the actions that matter, for they help diminish fears Fears of loneliness, friendlessness, or being misunderstood Stop conforming to society and start doing what you should By these little acts of kindness you could even make new friends Ones that will return the kindness until the very end
