A Little Birdy

A little birdy in a cage Hung up high above a stage Her story written page by page A little birdy in a cage A little birdy trapped in her cell She makes not a sound, not even a yell For what reason, no one can tell A little birdy trapped in her cell A little birdy mocked by all If she wasn’t trapped she’d surely fall It seems so long since she last stood tall A little birdy mocked by all A little birdy trying to sing She tries so hard to flutter her wings With each try she gains nothing A little birdy trying to sing A little birdy all tired out All she can do is sit in a corner and pout How could this all be brought about? A little birdy all tired out A little birdy finally free She’s way up high where she should be Her grave in the ground is all that others see A little birdy finally free
