Little Black White Girls
The little black white girls enunciate words
They savor their meter and rhyme
The little black white girls are a pleasure to teach
If their teacher should give them the time
Their bodies are molded from African clay,
And set to dry in the sun, But their brothers
and sisters sometimes turn away.
Before little black white girls are done
They live in gray shadows with nightmares and spooks
They wear their tales on their face
Some become ethnic, urban, and proud
And some turn away from their race
And yet there are other little black white girls
Who do neither, and live in disgrace.
Little black white girls are ignored by black boys,
who take black girls or white girls instead
These little black white girls are stuck up and strange
But they’re great if you coax them to bed
They date white boys in college, took black boys to prom
And it’s doubtful that boy introduced them to mom
Some search for good men for all of their lives
Some become lesbians, some become wives
And I, a little white black girl have nothing to lose
And I worry each day if I have rights to chose
I date in the rainbow and try to feel strong
But sometimes I feel I will never belong, but other
Black white girls believe in each other, we know
What it’s like to be bashed by a brother
Or dissed by a honky, or called a nigger
Or want our butts to be smaller or bigger
The little black white girls are different but strong
Zebras have less stripes than we,
The little black white girls long to belong
Let little white black girls stay free.
