Little Blue Blanket

This little blue blanket I've had

The years I cannot count but I'd say over seven years of my span of life.

People ask me why I still have one,

"For babies, for toddler's" they cry at me. I don't care.

This little blue blanket I've had

I've put much comfort into this fabric, the silk of its soft edges.

It's the perfect size for me really,

the perfect size to drape over my cold feet.

This little blue blanket I've had

I'd bring with me to anywhere and any place that allows such a thing.

My schoolmates, my work mates, stare in question, why?

Are they stuck with green faces and yellow toes?

This little blue blanket I've had

To take it to an island with me is what I'd do to keep sane.

It holds my bed, my floor, my entire room, inside of it,

The scent only, my blanket is not quite big.

This little blue blanket I've had

It will soften the ridge of my sand-digging fingertips whilst I'm there.

Cover my thighs in silk during my sleep,

and remind me of home when I dream.

This little blue blanket I've had

Memories near and dear will be clear as the water before me.

From times both when he was alive,

and after that too.

This little blue blanket I've had

will calm the strongest of storms

the ones of the seas

and the ones of my brain.
