Little Boy

I saw a little boy in the grocery store all alone. I approached him, knelt down and said “Little boy, why are you so far from home?” He stood up and looked me in my eyes. He said “A house isn’t a home if my parents’ hearts are so cold and they’re always leaving me alone” I started to ask him to explain but as I opened my mouth, his mother came up and screamed “Boy, you talking to strangers again?” I said, “Ma’am, I’m training to be a cop. Don’t blame him, its all my fault.” She said, “Jr. let’s go!” she yanked his arm and headed for the door-that was weeks ago, and I haven’t seen him anymore. As I stand here today, I still feel sorry for the kid. Eyes so full of dreams, but his talent was hid. Oh dear little boy, if you can hear me now, I’m sorry. Please don’t think I didn’t see the bruises on your arms or the burn marks on your neck. And, oh, the sound of your growling stomach is a moan I can’t forget. I don’t want you to feel as if you are all alone or as if God is gone, little boy. Make a choice, don’t let the choice make you. I know you may feel like you’ve run out of options to choose- but you don’t have to let your enemies win the race when you can just put on your lucky shoes.
