Little Brown Girl

Little Brown Girl

Just as pretty as can be

"fix yourself baby"

that's what Momma always told me

be who society wants you to be

Stand up straight, speak only when spoken to

Matter fact Add some tracks and subtract every trace of you being black too

We grow up being hated by the men we grow up being taught to love

because we don't speak when spoken too but speak to be heard

we're considered "ratchet" "ghetto" or all of the above

judged by the color of our skin instead of the content of our character.

but that's what it means to be free.

right?

"Baby fix yourself"

someones watching you

actually just put a little makeup on too.

Little Brown Girl..

I have to tell you

you are gods gift to earth from your shoe to your face

dipped in melanin and and a whole lotta grace.
