[The little girl in the broken home...]
[The little girl in the broken home]
The little girl in the broken home, had her world come crashing down.
She tried so hard to stay afloat but eventually she drowned.
The first one at the age of five with nowhere else to roam.
No longer would she encounter the scene of a stable home.
Into the fire she walked blindly.
That dinner table conversation, her first memory.
The second one while off at college, creating a home of her own.
Now reliving the past, she thought she had out grown.
She was so innocent back then, but this time she knew better.
While dealing with each side's personal vendetta, the family therapist was her new endeavor.
A new game of tug-o-war would now ensue.
The family would be split in two,
And then again once more.
Nothing would be left to do but go along for the ride.
She held on the best she could.
They always said they wouldn’t, yet in the middle is where she stood.
She tried to stay strong on her own, as the yelling shook the floor.
When a foundation is shaken, the building is never secure.
The little girl in the broken home, was now a teen in a toxic house.
All her life she’s wondered, what it would look like for a parent to truly love their spouse.
Sure, he may have cheated.
And how could you ever forgive?
Yet, without forgiveness, how can you truly love?
Sure, she may be bitter.
And how could you ever learn to deal?
Yet, without patience, how can you truly love?
The little girl gave forgiveness to her regretful Dad.
She stayed silent while her mother reminded her of all he had done bad.
She smiled and said “It's fine” as each side spit fire at the other.
With tears in her eyes, she held the extinguisher.
To each hushed secret she’d surely abide.
She’d never let anyone see how much it hurt inside.
