a little seed
Before a seed may become a plant it is covered in dirt and forced to grow through the dark in order to find light.
Unlike a seed, I was afraid.
Afraid I would not know in which direction the light was located, how far it was, or how I was going to get there.
For a while I stayed still. Allowing the world to continue its rotation as I sat there, cold, beneath the surface.
Though sad and lonely, it became comfortable,
Familiar.
Although the thought above the dirt felt so beautiful and so warm,
It felt extremely far.
Almost impossible.
The rain came and went and I, afraid, chose not to sprout.
Instead the rain pushed me even further into the cold, wet dirt.
Every day I grew more weary of the darkness.
Eventually, I came to realize the only way to change my situation was to change my mind.
I could no longer fear the unknown.
I had to be uncomfortable.
I finally allowed myself to grow.
Although every step I took I wanted to turn around,
I knew I would end up in the same place.
I had to ride above the demons in my head and pursue a new life; a new state of mind.
I could not reach the light immediately but
Slowly, I could feel myself getting closer.
With time I began to feel the warmth penetrating the surface... I followed it.
Suddenly I could breathe.
I could feel the rays of sunshine reflecting off me, bringing me energy,
Life.
I am still so small
It appears I have barely grown at all...
But I am ready to take on the world.
