Little Sis and Soldier
Off to deployment I complain
As my brother is shipped away
Knowing he’ll represent our red, white and blue
Is enough for you and me
My brother is the warrior I didn’t expect him to become
For this little sister is as proud as can be
Running, hiding, shooting, and killing
Is the pain of this soldier
Missing family back home
In a foreign country I’ve never known
But I know I’m fighting for the ones I love
That’s just enough to keep this soldier
From giving up his home
I’ve missed my brother for six months
The one who’s the toughest of us all
Sent me a postcard a few weeks ago
Still worried about his safety
I wished he could be here with me
Instead of being a target for another country
Just got shot in combat,
This soldier is bleeding out
The remaing breath is going out to God
Knowing I’ll be in a better place
I plead, “I’m sorry, and I love you” in that last final breath
Then I rise up to train for protecting
My family in another place
At the funeral, I look at the last postcard he sent
The last words to my family was, ‘I love you’
That part I traced in Sharpie
Because it was soiled by my hero’s blood
As the officials folded his flag
Mom was in tears
While Dad was silently cursing God
After the ceremony,
They tried to give my parents his flag
Instead, they have them give it to me
I burst in tears,
Because, he was my soldier,
And I was his Little Sis.
