Little Thing

Oh, little thing

My sweet, little thing

That does nothing

Does not cook

Or sweep

Or even speak

But brings joy regardless:

You are irreplaceable.

Truly.

I don’t know how I don’t worry more often

About how the expiration dates of both our consciousness do not align.

About the sadness that will someday leave.

It is my love for you that prevents my mind from going there.

Even though you only

Eat

And sleep,

You are always here.

I am eternally grateful for your presence and worldly innocence.

Those who lack a little thing cannot possibly fathom just how much they are missing.
