The Little Things
It's the little things
that inspire me.
The distant song of a bird,
or the chatter of a squirrel.
The vibrance of a blooming flower
at the beginning of Spring.
It's the little things
that inspire me.
The passing smile of a stranger,
or the gaze of a facinated child.
The sparkle in my best friend's eyes
when she listens to me sing.
It's the little things
that inspire me.
My mother's nods of assurance,
and my father's proud expression.
My aunt's happy tears
when I showed her my class ring.
It's the little things
that inspire me.
The patter of my dog's paws,
and the way my grandfather loves me.
The way my Nonna laughed
when she'd push me on a swing.
It's the little things
that inspire me.
Or perhaps
these little things
are not so little
after all.
