LIVE IN PEACE

LIVE IN PEACE

Wake up and smell the flowers.
This is the generation of genocide by the hour.
You see our tongues kill people every single day.
They break them down in every imaginable way.
Hate is one of the worst crimes you can ever commit.
And the sad truth is that people will never quit.
So let’s take a journey and go back a bit.
To the time where all this hate was legit.
In the late 1940’s, segregation was still in full swing.
And everyone had to deal
With the hate, Jim Crow would bring.
One man stood against them all,
By playing a game dubbed the white-man’s ball;

He’s black they cried, what can he do?

But he showed them all with the number 42.
Jackie Robinson took the world by storm.
He lit a flame that would continue to warm.
He’s not the only person who changed the world.
Our next hero came in the form of a girl.
Rosa Parks was not a rebel at heart.
But one day she found she had a spark.
On a bus after work, she simply sat down.
Her way back home from a long day in town.
And a single act really tested her luck.
When she refused to move and get up.
Not only did she keep the flame burning.
She inspired the freedom riders wheels to start turning.
13 people of two different races;
Took a bus through some of the most racist places.
They were taunted, ridiculed, and even beat.
They really started feeling that warm southern heat.
Finally, in 1963, a man named Martin Luther King had a dream.
It was that you and me could live together in perfect harmony.
That flame turned into a wildfire growing higher;
And change began to burn even brighter.
Now here we are in the Year 2015;
Hate does still blossom and green.
But we can stop.  Accept those around us for who they are.
And don’t continue to chip away at that scar.
We can work together, play together, pray together… hand in hand
To begin to heal the hurts of our land.
This dream will never cease;

          This is how we live in peace.
