To Live Will Be an Awfully Big Adventure

John chapter eight, verse thirty two:

Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free

But on the day I came out to my parents

The truth shattered into a million different pieces

Breaking my Peter Pan heart

And Never Land became a place I could never go again

I always thought Pan should have been the god of love

If only we could all love with horns on our head and hooves on our feet

The only requirement for adoration

Is how beautiful we find their soul.

But- I guess we all have to grow up someday.

And growing up has been a twenty-one-year-old process

Of picking up the million pieces

And wincing when the shards cut my fingers

Turns out, the truth really does hurt.

Sometimes I can’t remember if I ever was a child

But then there remain the nights

Walking alone through the streets of London

If I listen closely

I can hear the faint sound of a pipe softly playing

If I look up

I can still see two stars, glittering like fairies

And if I close my eyes gently, so gently

I can feel my feet almost lift off the earth
