“I won!” cried the winner. “I lost,” sobbed the loser. “To what end?” asked the philosopher. “Pleasure and pain,” laughed the jester. “Yet so much more,” replied the god. “But at its roots . . .” agreed life’s onlooker. “Nothing at all,” contested the dead man.
