Living Ghosts

Snapshots,
     glimpses,
sometimes mirror images
   of faces
     reflect in my brain.

Once familiar people
     and names
are now distant
   and fading
     ghosts.

I see them again
     and again in dreams,
walking on streets,
   passing by,
     living their normal lives.

I know their name;
I know that face.

But all of the people
     I've ever known and seen
fade together,
   melt into one.

     If only I didn't forget you;
I wish I could remember YOU,
     instead of your ghost.
