Living on Hope
I wouldn't be alive today without some hope
Too many late nights have been survived due to hope
A hope for tomorrow
A hope for clearer days
Lately, it's been faltering
Lately, it's been coming in gushes and waves
I know how to swim but it becomes tiring too quickly
The days too short
And the nights too long
Not much can be done at night
Except stare at the wall
Walls that stare back at me and echo my intrusive thoughts
But that's when I turn over and hope for a better morning
Hope for better days
Hope has gotten me through cold, winter and summer nights
Listening to harsh winds and harsher thoughts
Hope has gotten me through quiet school days
Clouded by bad ideas and hazy motor functions
Hope has gotten me thus far and without it
I wouldn't be here
I wouldn't be still hoping for calm seas
Hoping for better tomorrows
Without hope, I would be dead
