Living with Hydrocephalus

Hydrocephalus?

What is it?

Hydrocephalus is when fluid accumulates in the brain enlarging the head that sometimes causes brain damage,

But that’s only if is not known on time.

When I first told my best friend in high school, “I was born with hydrocephalus,”

She didn’t believe it,

She asked “but don’t they have mental illness or are disabled?”

I said, “Not always, I was lucky,”

I was diagnose with hydrocephalus when I was born,

Doctors did a surgery and put a shunt.

I’m cure!

I live a normal life!

I run,

I go to the gym,

I go to college,

I love studying,

I’m happy!

When I was younger, I never told my friends or teachers I was born with hydrocephalus,

I was afraid to be treated different,

But now I’m not afraid to talk about it,

It’s who I am,

And I’m proud.

I'm caring,

Loving,

And I'm always there for my friends and family.

I don't judge!

I treat people with the same respect they treat me.

Live, love, laugh.

Be happy!
