Living In The Light

A soul

Deeper then the ocean

Hair wild

Like the summer breeze

Nothing was holding her down

Until he caught her eye

He tied her down

With a heavy ring

She didn't see

Couldn't believe

What she was seeing

In those dark eyes

Flashing

Like lightening

Across a late summer sky

She saw something pure evil

Too late

She was too late

Found out just a second too late

They looked picture perfect

Her summer dress

Hugging curves

Make up

On a doll face

But no one looked too deep

No one could see

The bruises

Under that make up

Covering the truth

The ugly raw truth

His fist

Raised and ready

For a fight

And she could smell the whiskey

Off him tonight

Enough

Was enough

She swore

Under her breath

One more time

Give me one more reason

She was ready for a fight

She was ready

For this to be the last night

He took his fist

To her face

She was done

An angel falling from grace

No one was going to save her

But her

And she was ready

To fight

Fist to fist

She told him

Come get me

If you're man enough

Chin raised high

All those bruises

Shining bright

For the angels to see

The fire

Burning in her eyes

The truth

Burning through the lies

She was ready

To fight

For this night

To be over

And now

She wears no make up

Not a single bruise

In sight

She sleeps alone at night

No man holding her down

Pinning her

In the corner

Like a caged animal

She's a free bird

Burning bright

Living in the light

Finally out of the shadows
