Logan Day
I want to know you
Not the boy who sits in the back each day in rain boots, regardless of the weather
Who sneaks bits of Sun Chips through his lips when no one’s watching
and leans back in his chair, leaving black scuffs on the tiles beneath him
I want to hear the things you yell at your mother
When she won’t understand
you are becoming a man
but you still need her love
I want to lay in bed with you
during the nights when your body aches for sleep,
but your demons refused to be silenced
And you’ll bury your head into my chest and cling to the soft flesh of my waist,
searching for a place to store your shame
I want to be there when you fail
When you’ve given everything you know how to give
and you call yourself names
You’ll tell me to give up on you
I’ll grab your hand and hold it against my chest
so you know there is one person who bleeds for you
And though to me it’s absurd
I know there are times when you feel ugly
When the scar beneath your left eye hurts no matter how many times I kiss it,
and the delicate features I have come to adore will threaten your masculinity
Let me tell you how gorgeous you are
I know you won’t believe me
But please, let me
I want to see you let go
When you laugh so deeply you might explode
and the world becomes blurry through your tears
And I will pretend not to hear your little snorts
I want you to sneak through my window
when I am angry with you
Whispering apologies into my hair until I fall asleep
while you listen to my sleeping sighs
until daylights sends you home
Logan Day, I have no idea who are
I only know that I need to know more
I hope when you walk to your bus stop today with rain boots and rosy cheeks
that you will think of the girl who sits in the front of class
and want to know her too
