Lone Survivor
Staring into the depths of my decision,
the choices I have to make floating in the distance.
I don’t want to ruin someone else's vision,
but i’m sinking. Drowning, I can’t find my resistance.
I keep getting colder; my fear needs no assistance.
I do. I’m weightless, but I keep being dragged
farther down because of my actions. Help me!
I can’t scream, I just sink further till i'm tagged-
out. Then what, I might be safe but what if I can’t see.
I could try but I have no idea who I should be.
I guess I’ll just have to wait for someone who can.
Here she comes a guiding light, in an old pair of sweats.
I tell her my problems. She gives me a scan.
Then she tells me to forget all my pains and regrets.
I start to see possibilities as we make a plan.
She saved me with a white varsity letter.
She coached me back to health and helped clear my foggy head.
She offered kindness: i’ll never forget her.
She bandaged the wounds with love, knowing the pain I bled
To this day I remember the words that she said.
