Loneliness
I am Eric,
Born with Microtia,
Boy with hearing disorder,
The timid lurking in the shadows,
Decisions made to be alone,
The books in hand to accompany me,
Silence was my friend,
Silence was my happiness,
Nothing that spoke was all I ever wanted.
Surgery changed it all,
The sound of the wind triggered my piece of mind,
The sound of people speaking filled my eyes with tears,
The thought of sounds gave me many headaches.
The only sound that comfort me was the sound of my mother’s voice.
High school was a big change,
Socializing became a must,
Presentations became a must,
Making allies and friends became a must,
All I had to say to myself is that I must prepare for the real world.
College changed my life,
Confidence grew,
Knowledge grew,
The desire for sounds grew,
The desire to speak and make a world a different place grew,
Now I stand tall lurking in the sunlight with others to accompany me.
