A Long Day to Forget
On that long day,
The sun refused to set.
Assualted in broad dayight
in plainsight like prey.
There was a child left alone-
not a care in the world.
There was a child unbothered
then devoured and left as bone.
On that long night,
in the cover of a mirthless black
Ten fingers and two hands
butchered a child’s innocent light.
It was a short car ride home.
She did not dare to speak
just look into a sky as black as coal
to find all the stars had died.
