Smears of rain on the glass
Reflect my watery stare
Tears slide off my cheeks
And I think
Where is the sun in this drudgery of rain
Does it require surgery to cease the pain
An amputation of loving remembrance
Yet I will never part from such a memory
And with resolve made firm
The universe moves to test me
The breaking of these ominous clouds
Which once seemed to imprison my spirit
Threatens now to bring purging light
Replacing memories held dear
And losing the gleam of the past
I stay to my shadowy crevice
Tending flames that once warmed me
And fearing the future
Lest I lose the precious fire of my heart
