Long Live The Children

It takes an active mind

and a grand imagination

to change what you were given

into your own insane creation

To get lost in your own mind

will lead to new discoveries

hidden behind endless doors

to which you have the keys

You may glance at your hand

and see only skin and bone

but it becomes good fun

when you've made it your own

Your hand, quite plain before

has sprouted legs just then

it walks across the school desk

in pursuit of your pen

However there is no pen in sight

and now you understand

that the utensil with which you write

has snuck up on your hand

These extraordinary beings

begin to fight and play

they call on the child in you

and color this black and white school day

Because gray clouds exist

we must keep simple joy alive

we must fight, altogether now

if our happiness is to survive
