The Long Road

I walk the road of life daily, trying to reach my destination

Determined never to submit to fear and intimidation.

Though at times I feel like giving up and just lay down and die

I know that I find my strength from he who sits on high.

The road of life has many predators, sharp rocks, and splinters

The day scorches me like hot coal and the night freezes me like winter.

My body is weak from hunger and my mouth suffers from an unbearable thirst

The fowls of the air hover over me persisently, waiting for me to fall lifeless on the earth.

Critters of the night growl and screech, and I start to become afraid

Hoping that Day will come soon, and that finally someone will come to my aid.

A voice whispers in my ear, telling me that it's pointless, just give up and turn back

The road seems endless and my spirit is starting to lack.

But never will I surrender, never will I fall into despair

For I know that through the power of God, it is victory I declare!
