Longing for Summer

Sat, 04/12/2014 - 01:14 -- Al-Ruby

Chase away the cold and mild

The months drag by in listless gloom

Let the summer sun shine once more and beguile.

She makes the nights so hot and wild,

She breaks free children from the confining school room

Chase away the cold and mild.

When will sunbeams warm the tired earth-child,

And permit once more the weary blossoms to bloom?

Let the summer sun shine once more and beguile.

It is winter that they so revile,

A wicked time when over their little heads only clouds loom

Chase away the cold and mild.

The deep snow and chill time has heavily piled

It is due to be swept away by summer’s broom

Let the summer sun shine once more and beguile.

It has been an age since I’ve seen her gleaming smile

Since she filled the air with the scent of her grass-dry perfume.

Chase away the cold and mild.

Let the summer sun shine once more and beguile.
