Look Up

On the streets

People hunched

With their faces in pools of light.

My sister is sprawled

On my old bedspread,

Sugar in

Her teeth.

Who’s Hitler?

It’s so loud!

It’s so loud!

The smearing sound of a million engines

And pressurized cabins.

Every other day

I remind myself to look up

At the sky

But

I keep forgetting.

I grinned. But the best part about that is, I'm not sure if i'm supposed to. This poem perfectly melds happy images to racial/warm tension i.e pools of light/ sugar in her teeth contrasted to smearing sound/pressurized cabins. It's a highness that works as a sense of delight and as a sense of overwhelming feeling. You are a lovely writer. I would love to read more from you!
