A Look at the Goggles of Bikini Atoll
Dylan sang to me an atomic song
As the prized nuclear goggles hang near
Geiger counter shrills, loud and beeping strong
Hard rains fall and soon rises my mortal fear
Strand of sand fused into polarized glass
Of the goggles; Grandfather’s prize scares me
In Japan, they saw burning charred city mass
Bikini Atoll mushroom goes with peas
This is a recipe for disaster
Dylan still sings grandfather’s misfortune
Sending the World to Death even faster
Bear the pain of atoms onto my chin
The mushroom cloud would sock our world, knocked out
Cold, clouds cover sun and hard rain fallout

Your Poem's Voice
Personal memory anchored in nuclear/philosophical anxiety about atomic weapons
Dense layering of historical references, imagery, and ideas within compressed lines
Pervasive dread, fear, disaster imagery; existential threat dominates tone
Explosive diction: shrills, beeping, burning, mushroom, sock, knocked out
Approximately 16 lines; solidly mid-length poem
Metaphors (recipe for disaster), personification (Dylan sings), vivid imagery throughout
Predominantly lyric first-person introspection with embedded narrative memory
