Look at Me

I want the world to look at me

The way I really want to be.

They see a perfect Christian girl,

I see a girl without religion.

They hear no vulgar words from me,

On occasion, even I let loose

A word or two that may abuse.

They think me calm and kind and cool,

But according to my short fuse,

That is the farthest thing from true.

I want to be seen.

To be seen as myself is the greatest thing.

I am a Sophomore in college, aged 19 working my way toward a Biology degree. I use poetry as a anxiety reducer and often go to open-mic nights in my area.
