LOOK AT ME!!

LOOK AT ME - WHAT DO YOU SEE .....

You walk in, you smell that smell, you look around and see plain walls, stained carpet and a long hallway with handicap railings....

then your eyes stop on me.

Look at me - what do you see?

You see me, an old person in a wheelchair maybe I am sleeping because I am so medicated, maybe I am staring at the wall or talking to myself. Maybe I am forced to be at the nurses’ station because I need supervision or maybe I am there begging for help because my light has been on for hours and I have now soiled myself in waiting too long for help that never showed up.

Look at me...What do you see?

You don't see that I was a child once, I had friends and toys, I played outside and loved sweet treats. I had parents who loved me. I was a teenager once, I partied, I dated, I had butterflies on my first kiss, I had my heart broken, I have broken hearts.

Look at me....What do you see?

Do you see I was a parent - that I taught my children all I had learned in life, I raised little ones... I drove, I shopped, I took care of myself, I fixed my own hair, I dressed myself. I liked certain foods, I worked for years. Movies, Popcorn, Hugs and Kisses....

LOOK AT ME! WHAT DO YOU SEE!

My eyes have seen the world evolve, my ears have heard the world change, my body has worn many styles of clothes....

LOOK AT ME, What do I see.....

I see strangers in scrubs who have other things to do and treat me as a nuisance - some care but most are there for the paycheck. I hear my roommate cry at night - why... because her family is too busy to come see her.      My body wears one of the three sets of cloths I now own - they are called sweats because they are easy to put on and wash.

Look at me, I live here, I have no choice, I eat what is served and I HOPE my family will take some time to come see me....
