Looking Back

I finally poured the concrete

And solidified the past

Into neat little paths

Of "Remember when..."

And "Life was simpler then"

Stamped squarely, brushed clean

Perfectly preserved

For a visit

down the road

When things seem harder

More complicated

Stressed about the day

A turn to look back

With a sentimental sigh

And still,

The perfect path behind us

Is actually paved

With the struggle of today
