Looking Back

Dear Me (4 years ago),

I know you think it’s hard.

It may be going rough.

But always keep on trying,

You’re made out of good stuff.

You’re starting high school in a week,

And the world is newly terrifying.

You’ll be dumb and scared, just like the rest,

But hey, it’s not like you’re dying.

Remember to listen to your friends,

Keep some old and make some new.

But trust your heart before the rest,

You know what’s best for you.

Feel free to test Mom and Dad,

You’re allowed to make mistakes.

But always own when you were wrong,

And when you should’ve hit the brakes.

Don’t worry and fret about your grades,

It will always turns out right.

And when deciding between homework and sleep,

It’s better to say goodnight.

Get more involved outside of school,

Don’t always act so stiff.

These years will be your best years yet,

So don’t regret and ask, “What If?”

It’s okay that you don’t know where you’re headed,

I too haven’t figured that out yet.

But keep your head up, your dreams are bright,

Your ambition will keep your future set.
