Looking Glass

A girl sits in a windowsill, dreaming of a new life

Her heart is too full of secrets, but her mind silences it

She hides behind a veil of secrecy, her eyes a prison

Her soul a diamond, multi-faceted

But only one side is shown to the world

Fear of self-expression, fear of emotion

Fear of being understood, and misunderstood

Just like a diamond, she is cold, unfeeling

Made of unbreakable stone,

She stares unflinchingly as the world hurls its rocks at her,

Her inside betrays her outside

Her outside hard, unflinching

Her inside in war,

Warring emotions showing no signs of ceasing, taking no prisoners

No end in sight

A girl sits in a windowsill, silently observing the world beyond the glass, dreaming of a new life
