Looking Past the Curtain
Success was made of two-for-two free throws
It was pieces of cloth on pin stating how GOOD I was
I was blue; a first place ribbon
I fucking killed it
I walked around with my $90 shoes I would outgrow much too soon
I kept my mind on vacations to places no one would see
I set my sights for HARVARD University
I wanted to SAVE THE WHALES
I found excitement in materialism and holidays that supported it
I thought people who drove buses reaked of tobacco and had nothing better to do
Laughing at low paid people
I am a little bastard
Politicians made great points and I wanted to grow up
to be JUST LIKE YOU MOM AND DAD
Alright, sue me for being the idealistic little squirt running around, okay?
Now though, I see right through it
Clartity
A wave crashed down on me
This is BULLSHIT
I grew up
Saving the whales by wishing people would not be so mean was fucking
ridiculous
Getting into Harvard?
with my father having been FIRED from there was not some hope I would rely on
Materialism displaces the beauty that could be shared between two people
And fuck me for thinking I am better than you for your low wages
Your tobacco reaking clothing draped across your body in a bus is beautiful
The politicians sucking your hopes and dreams
of being free to be yourself deserves no more than a shrug
I am floating in the happiness of others, and my newfound knowledge of realism
To hide from the truths of life and rely on materialism
Will drown you in the cloths of ignorance
Live with eyes wide open
I am
