Losing Neverland

We all grow up wishing

To be in that place

Grown up, independent

Staring the world in the face.

But now we're so close

And I'm realizing something:

Peter Pan had it right all along.

It's exhilirating and terrifying

Because "we are the future,"

And while that's amazing

It's a lot of pressure too.

I want to call Tink and go flying away

"Faith, trust, and pixie dust"

Is simpler than student loans.

I still want to grow up

But is it too much to ask

To still be allowed to escape?

What I'm really afraid of

Is not adulthood itself.

It's forgetting what it was like before.

I guess my real question is

To begin this new chapter of my life

Do I really have to lose Neverland?
