losing sleep

i can't sleep at night.

the worries from the day once had

and past once lived,

consuming my gently pulsing heart,

and overtaking my brain

until my eyes roll up the back of my head

and my breathing becomes strain.

i feel anxious just thinking

about trivial things that aren't worth five seconds

of my attention,

yet,

it takes hours

for me to fall into a deep slumber,

where reality is replaced by fantasy

and doubt is lost against determination.

i can't sleep at night.

if i cannot sleep,

i cannot be awoken.
