Losing You is Like Riding a Bike with No Wheels

Hey, I should let you know,

This is my first time.

The feeling in the pit of my stomach is just like when you took my training wheels off.

Just like all those time you said,

"See? Okay, now your turn."

Im scared because this is new.

You see, every other first you ever showed me before turned out okay

But the difference is, you're not here to see me through this one

And I'm far too grown to worry about scraping a knee

Now I worry about where you are

And how do I get to you again

Because you never left without a goodbye

And I know I'll see you again one day

But I just dont know how to even start peddling my way through all this right now

When you were teaching me to ride

I inevitably knew you would let go

Just when I was ready

But now you're long gone

And I'm just trying to peddle as hard as I can to get to you

But Im peddling backwards

And you're not here to teach me otherwise.

But I'm learning

And everyday I'm getting somewhere

And I can still feel your hand holding on to the back of my seat

But on your birthday

On Christmas

On New Years

On my birthday

On the second Tuesday of February

And maybe even on the third Wednesday of next week

I should let you know that this is my first time

My first time feeling you

But not having anything to grasp

My first time without your smile in the morning

Without your laughter amidst the goodtime

Without your voice on the phone

And sometimes I have a hard time

Because I've never been here

And now there's no one standing by my side

But I know that you are my training wheels from above

And you and me

Will always be you and me

Even on days like these.
