Loss

I’m letting go.

Sweaty palms and interlaced fingers,

Your hands never to touch mine again.

Long gone are the hours spent talking to each other over the phone.

Words that once shook mountains, left unsaid

Meaningless.

I'm letting go

Of the steady rise and fall,

My heart forgetting what it felt when you were breathing

Never ending sideways glances,

Eyes showing the feelings the mind is too arrogant to admit

Speechlessness

I'm letting go

Of the maze of memories

Countless "firsts" we will never get back

My mind sifting through the ashes of cheerfulness

Trying to recall where I went wrong

Uneasiness

You are no longer who I am.

No longer my motivation

My fear, desperation.

No longer my happiness

My anger, consciousness.

Letting go of you,

So that I may be free.

Letting go of your memory,

So new ones can take your place.

Letting go of your heart,

So mine can beat alone.

Letting go of who I was,

So I can become who I'm meant to be.

All this time I feared being alone,

When the real fear was to love without trying.
